Costume Swap - Lydia meets Lydia!

Can you guess which film I watched on Thursday? Yep, that's it - Beetlejuice!
I've wanted to watch it for ages but I was very wary of the fact it contains swearing and innuendoes (which I loathe) so I decided I wouldn't view it unless I could find a way to censor them out. As you can imagine, it seemed like a very slim chance that I would ever manage to watch it - the only TV filters I knew of were mostly found in the States! (I'm English, in case you didn't know.) How could I possibly get my hands on one of them? Should I just say, "Oh, blow it!" and watch the film anyway, trying to ignore BJ's language?
As it happened, I was on a webpage not long ago reading an article on Halloween movies and at the end the writer said that she recommended a site called VidAngel, which could filter out any offensive content. I'd heard of it before, but hadn't really looked into the matter - I guess at that time there wasn't a particular film I wanted to watch.
Since one of the films in the Halloween article was Beetlejuice, I decided to have a look on the website, thinking all the while, "There's got to be a catch! Maybe it's only available in America..." but I looked at all the terms & conditions and couldn't find a single sentence suggesting it was only for US customers. Then, realising my hopes could become a reality, I looked at the Fantasy section of the movies on offer (and believe you me - they have TONS!) and - lo and behold! - there was Beetlejuice. (Great, I've said it three times now...)
I asked my Dad if we could have a movie night via this site and I showed him the film I wanted. I set the filters (which was very easy), he paid the money and we sat down and watched it.
With the bad language edited out, it was a pretty decent movie - Adam and Barbara were nice people and it was amazing to see how the other characters compared to their cartoon counterparts. I couldn't believe how similar Charles was, and even more so Beej! He was just as silly as he was in the show (and even more embarrassing...)
On the other hand, I was rather surprised that Lydia was completely different - in the animated series, she'd been bright and bubbly and outgoing, whereas in the film she was very sombre and moody. I can easily tell why this is - in the cartoon, she had a daft best friend to make her laugh, while in the film she was horribly lonely. I wondered what would happen if the two Lydias met each other and some ideas began to form in my mind...
Let's just face it - not only do the Lydias act differently in their own universes, they look really different too. Cartoon Lyds is much shorter with thicker hair, lighter make-up and a greater variety of colours in her wardrobe. It makes you wonder what the cartoonists were thinking - but then again, I suppose all the other characters look wildly caricatured too.
In case you're interested, here's the site I used: www.vidangel.com/ There are lots of movies on there I'd love to watch without the swearing and there are quite a few Tim Burton films too, but I've already seen the ones I want to.

Aw! This is so neat! I've always enjoyed pictures where characters swap clothes- and Inespecially love to see how the clothes fit (or sometimes, like in this case, don't fit on the other character ^^ ) It's very cool to see a drawing that celebrates both Lydia's from both versions of Beetlejuice and I really enjoy this very much ^^
